CLIMB KILIMANJARO IN 2025/2026 – THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE AWAITS YOU!
Why Climb Kilimanjaro with us?
The 7 Days Umbwe Route is the most demanding and thrilling route up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its steep ascent, narrow ridgelines, and fast elevation gain, the Umbwe Route is designed for serious hikers with a high level of fitness and prior altitude experience.
Unlike the 6-day variation, the 7-day Umbwe itinerary includes a crucial acclimatization day, significantly improving your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) safely. After two intense days of trekking through dense rainforest and sharp ridges, you’ll spend an extra night at Barranco Camp, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude before continuing the summit push.
This route joins the Machame Route at Barranco and follows the southern circuit—crossing the scenic Barranco Wall, passing Karanga Camp, and reaching Barafu Camp before a midnight summit attempt. You’ll descend via the Mweka Route, ending your climb with a safer and more gradual descent through moorland and forest.
Though incredibly rewarding, the 7 Days Umbwe Route is not for beginners. It’s tailored to seasoned hikers or those looking for a physically and mentally challenging climb. Its low traffic and dramatic landscapes make it one of the most secluded and scenic Kilimanjaro experiences.
At Eco-Africa Climbing, we provide expert guides trained in Wilderness First Responder (WFR) care, along with ethically treated staff through our partnership with KPAP. Every climb includes full mountain support—hot meals, filtered water, private toilets, and daily health checks.
If you’re an experienced trekker who wants solitude, dramatic views, and a high-altitude challenge with the safety of an extra day for acclimatization, the 7 Days Umbwe Route is your perfect Kilimanjaro adventure.

We then transfer through villages and coffee and banana plantations to Umbwe Gate. The trail ascends sharply on a forestry track which winds up the dense rain forest.

Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.

From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
