TIP  FOR YOUR MOUNTAIN CREW

Tipping is an important part of the culture in Tanzania, and it’s customary to tip your mountain crew after a successful Kilimanjaro climb. While our Kilimanjaro packages do not include tips for the crew, we understand that tipping can be a bit confusing and stressful for some travelers. So, to make things easier for you, we have put together a recommended tipping guideline that you can use to show your appreciation for the hard work and dedication of your mountain crew.

For your guide, we recommend a tip of $15 to $20 per day. Your guide is responsible for leading the climb, ensuring your safety, and providing you with valuable information about the mountain and the surrounding area.

For your assistant guide, we recommend a tip of $10 to $15 per day. Your assistant guide is there to support the main guide and ensure that everything runs smoothly on the climb.

For your cook, we recommend a tip of $10 to $15 per day. Your cook is responsible for preparing your meals and ensuring that you have enough energy to complete the climb.

Finally, for your porters, we recommend a tip of $6 to $10 per day per porter. Your porters are responsible for carrying your gear and equipment up the mountain, and they work extremely hard to make sure that everything is in order.

The guidelines for tipping are as follows:

Guide – $15 to $20 per day

Assistant Guide – $10 to 15 per day

Chef – $10 to $15 per day

Porters – $6 to $10 per day per porter

An example of the Mountain crew size is when 2 people climb together for 7 days Machame climb you will have 14 people has your Mountain Crew  which comprise as below.

  • 1 Lead Guide
  • 1 Assistant Guide
  • 1 Cook
  • 11 Porters

Therefore, the tip amount will be as below using the above tipping guideline.

  • Lead guide: $105$140
  • Assistant guide: $70$105
  • Cook: $70$105
  • Regular porters: $462$770 ($6 to $10 per day per porter)
  •

Therefore, the total tipping amount for the mountain crew would be $707$1120. Each climber would contribute $354$560, if the cost is divided equally between them. It’s important to note that this is just an example of the tipping guidelines.

It’s important to note that these are just recommended tipping amounts, and you should feel free to tip more or less based on your personal level of satisfaction with the crew’s performance. Whatever you choose to give, we know that your mountain crew will appreciate your generosity and hard work. We recommend that you budget for tipping in advance and prepare to give a gratuity to your mountain crew at the end of your climb.

While our Kilimanjaro packages include comprehensive transportation services to and from the airport, as well as to the start and end points of your climb, we understand that some travelers may require additional transfers outside of the standard itinerary. It’s important to note that any extra transfers required outside of the itinerary are not included in the package price. However, we are happy to arrange these transfers for you at an additional cost. Our team can help you arrange transportation to local attractions, additional hotels or accommodations, or any other destinations you may need to visit during your stay in Tanzania.

If you require extra transfers outside of the standard itinerary, please let us know at the time of booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements and provide you with a quote for the additional cost.

EXTRA MEAL

Expenses for meals and drinks beyond the Bed and Breakfast basis at the hotel are not included. However, we understand that some travelers may have different dietary requirements or preferences, or may wish to explore local dining options during their stay in Tanzania. If you require additional meals, our team can assist you in finding local restaurants and cafes that cater to your needs and preferences. Alternatively, if you would like to have meals at the hotel outside of the standard bed and breakfast basis, our team can provide you with a quote for the additional cost..

PERSONAL GEARS AND SLEEPING BAG

Please note that our Kilimanjaro packages do not include any personal items such as hiking gear, trekking poles, and sleeping bags. However, we understand that not everyone may have access to such equipment or may prefer to travel light. In such cases, we offer rental services for a variety of hiking gear, including trekking poles and sleeping bags, at an additional cost. Our rental equipment is maintained to the highest standards, ensuring your comfort and safety during your climb.

Alternatively, if you prefer to bring your own equipment, we recommend that you bring gear that is suitable for the conditions you will encounter on the mountain. This may include warm layers, waterproof clothing, sturdy hiking boots, and a daypack, among other items. Our team can provide you with a detailed packing list to help you prepare for your climb.

SNACKS

Please note that our Kilimanjaro packages do not include any additional snacks or energy bars during the climb. However, we do provide three meals a day while on the mountain, as well as snacks such as fresh fruit and nuts, to keep you fueled and energized throughout your climb.

We recommend that you bring your own snacks and energy bars if you have specific dietary requirements or preferences. This will ensure that you have access to the foods that you need to maintain your energy levels during the climb. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your dietary needs while on the mountain. We are happy to accommodate special requests whenever possible to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable climb.

 PERSONAL MEDICINE

Please be advised that our Kilimanjaro packages do not include any personal medication or first aid kits. It is important that you bring any necessary medications or medical supplies with you on your climb.

We recommend that you consult with your physician before embarking on the climb to determine if you need to take any special medications, such as Diamox for altitude sickness, or Malarone for malaria prevention.

We also advise that you bring a personal first aid kit with you, including items such as band aids, gauze, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers. While our guides carry an emergency basic first aid kit, it is always best to be prepared with your own supplies.

If you have any questions or concerns about what medical supplies to bring, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to provide guidance and support to ensure that you have a safe and successful climb.

WATER   PURIFYING TABLETS

On our Kilimanjaro packages, we do not include water purification tablets as part of the package. we treat water by using water guard tablets which are available in Tanzania; from our experience, this water guard may have some effect on some of the people,, but we understand that some climbers may prefer to use their own purification tablets due to personal preferences or allergies. Additionally, we recommend bringing along powdered drink mixes with electrolytes or bouillon cubes to add flavor to the water and encourage staying hydrated. These items can easily be packed in your personal gear and can be purchased prior to your trip or while in Tanzania. We want to ensure that you stay healthy and hydrated throughout your climb, and having your own water purification tablets and flavoring options can help make that possible.

PERSONAL   PORTER

While our Kilimanjaro packages include a team of porters to carry your main gear and equipment, we understand that some of our climbers may want to hire an extra porter to carry their day pack or camera gear. This service is not included in the package, but we do offer it as an optional extra for an additional cost of $30 per day. Hiring an extra porter can help ease the burden of carrying heavy gear during the climb, and allow you to fully enjoy the experience and capture the breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro. Please let us know in advance if you wish to hire an extra porter, and we will arrange it for you.

TRAVEL   INSURANCE  FOR YOUR KILIMANJARO CLIMB

At our company, we take the safety and well-being of our clients seriously. That’s why we require all climbers to have adequate travel insurance that covers them for trekking up to 6,000 meters. Kilimanjaro is a challenging climb, and due to its remote location and high altitude, there are risks involved.

Your travel insurance should cover medical emergencies, medical evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, and other unexpected events that may occur during your climb. We recommend that you carefully review the coverage of your insurance policy before embarking on your journey.

If you don’t have travel insurance that meets our requirements, we can provide you with recommendations for reputable travel insurance companies that offer policies tailored to Kilimanjaro climbs. Remember, having appropriate travel insurance is not only mandatory for our Kilimanjaro climbs, but it’s also essential for your peace of mind and protection in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

SINGLE SUPLLIMENT FOR YOUR CLIMB

We offer double occupancy accommodation as a part of our Kilimanjaro climb packages, which means you will be sharing a tent or a room with another person of the same gender. However, if you prefer to have privacy during your climb, we offer a single supplement option for an additional cost of $250 per person. This will provide you with your own private tent or room throughout the climb. Please note that single supplement availability is subject to the availability of tents and rooms at the time of booking.

EXTRA NIGHT AT HOTEL

We understand that every climber’s needs are unique. While our standard climb package includes 2 nights of accommodation before and after the climb, we recognize that some clients may want to arrive earlier to adjust to the time zone or recover from a long flight.

If for any reason you need to descend from the mountain before your scheduled time, please be aware that you will need to pay for an extra night at  hotel in Moshi.

While we strive to provide a safe and enjoyable climb experience for all our clients, we recognize that unforeseen events can occur. Whether it’s due to altitude sickness, fatigue, or other factors, we want to ensure that you have a comfortable and secure place to rest and recuperate.

Others may wish to extend their stay in Moshi to explore the area or simply relax after their climb.

For those who require additional nights at our partner hotel, the Panama Garden Resort, we offer a special rate of $90 for double occupancy and $70 for single occupancy on a bed and breakfast basis. This charming resort is situated in a peaceful setting and provides a comfortable and convenient base for your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Whether you’re looking to rest and recharge before your climb, recover after your descent, or simply enjoy some extra time in Moshi, we are here to accommodate your needs. At Eco-Africa Climbing, we strive to provide a personalized experience for each of our clients.
